Philanthropy as a political concept

Abstract. The article presents approaches to charitable activities in Russia and abroad in the context of the definitions of «philanthropy», «charity» and «patronage». Philanthropy is considered as a mechanism of influence on the processes taking place in the modern socio-political environment, as well as a source of formation of algorithms for influencing political innovations and political experiments.

Using the example of several research points of view, the author shows how in modern realities multinational corporations and businesses use philanthropic practices to solve their problems and form public capital.

Philanthropic practices as a tool for interaction with local communities are forming a new model of socio-political interaction and influence.
Charity and philanthropy programs are forms of symbolic communication and increasing trust between business and civil society, between business and government.

At the same time, the formation of a particular model of philanthropy used by a charitable organization is always closely linked to the personality of its founding leader.

In this regard, the author also examines the motivating component of philanthropic practices in terms of their influence on their increasing popularity in the business environment.

The entrepreneurial type of philanthropy presupposes a new model of philanthropy, in which financial resources are exchanged for political influence.

In this concept of philanthropy, according to the author, the role of the state as a regulatory factor encouraging philanthropy becomes even more important, but at the same time institutionalizing such incentives for the accumulation of private interests in order to maintain a balance between donors and public beneficiaries of recipients of such assistance, that is, society.
