Abstract. The current relevance of digital technologies and artificial intelligence is due to the fact that they have had a significant impact on liberal democracies. These innovations have had the greatest impact on three key aspects of democratic politics: political communication, political participation, and policymaking.
The impact of digital technologies and artificial intelligence permeates the entire political process, influencing the flow of information between citizens and political actors, communication between the mass population and political elites, and the development of policy responses to public problems.
It is interesting to explore how digital technologies and artificial intelligence have impacted these different areas, and to identify areas of research consensus and unresolved issues. It is also important to argue that a key perspective relates to problem definition, that is, how the nature of the problems raised by digital technologies becomes the subject of political debate.
Efforts have been made at the global and regional levels to address information security issues, but much remains to be done. Conscientious nations are seeking to enrich global legal and standard-setting efforts, as well as improve their own basic information security mechanisms.
