Abstract. Every industrial revolution seriously changes the life of society. The main tool for peaceful life and war is information. The relevance of the study is due to the need to comprehend the position of Russia in the context of global geopolitical processes, information threats and challenges.
It was noted that until the middle of the twentieth century, the value of information was reduced to receiving messages. Discoveries in the field of cybernetics have shown humanity that information, having become the main human resource, ensures the survival and transformation of any systems as the basis for the development and influence on politics and the economy.
Analyzed, the race of technologies for primacy in scientific development and information policy contributed to technological breakthroughs in science, discoveries and developments that changed the life of mankind. Russia, having survived a serious systemic crisis of domestic science in the late 80s and early 90s as a result of a change of power and liberal reforms, underwent a multiple reduction in its scientific potential, and, accordingly, significantly reduced the effectiveness of scientific activity, while the «locomotives» of progress — information, management and organization — brought China, the United States and a number of Western countries to a new round of development — to the information society.
It is indicated that the main task in this complex world is the ability to defend and survive. What path to choose for this is up to the state. And if Western civilizations advocate for a reduction in fertility, for unconventional relationships, for the role of the individual and «individual freedom», we are for traditional values, love, faith and family. Two different approaches against the background of the information society.
