Abstract. The article «Information component of hybrid wars» explores the role of information influence in modern wars, especially in the context of hybrid conflicts. Hybrid war has become a kind of Achilles’ heel of modern humanities. Specialists in various fields of knowledge pay a lot of attention to this socio-political phenomenon. According to the author of the article, this is due to the fact that humanity has stepped into the information age — communications and technology. Now the main weapon in the confrontation between states is information and the means of its transmission. Modern humanitarian science has defined this kind of confrontation with a special term — «information war», which, according to the author, is quite logical, due to the nature of such an irreconcilable confrontation. The combination of these two independent concepts and phenomena — «hybrid war» and «information war» gives grounds for many researchers to identify them. An analysis of various ways of conducting an information war through the defeat of the consciousness of the population, the purposeful manipulation of reliable and unreliable information, gives the author grounds to consider it as one of the components of a hybrid war. In conclusion, the author emphasizes that to date, our country has not yet developed effective mechanisms to counter the manipulative technologies of the information war. The qualitative characteristics of the tools used by our specialists are significantly lower than those used by our opponents. At the same time, we consider it necessary to note that the trend that has emerged in recent years, to develop adequate mechanisms to counter information attacks, is gaining positive momentum. This is due to the need to improve cybersecurity, strengthen defense mechanisms against disinformation and propaganda, and develop and expand information warfare and information analysis skills.
Keywords: hybrid war; information war; manipulation of consciousness; cyber attacks; disinformation; humanities; manipulative technologies
