On the one hand, state policy supports the image of a man as a protector and breadwinner. On the other hand, under the influence of media and social networks, flexible and emotionally charged ideas about gender roles are spreading among young people. This causes an intergenerational conflict in which the older generation adheres to stereotypes, and the youth strives for variability.

The purpose of the study is to identify typical models of masculinity and characterize them taking into account generational differences. The empirical base covers men from 18 to 79 years old. The study uses questionnaires, in-depth interviews and visual analysis of content in social networks.

Hypotheses are put forward about the existence of three models of masculinity: traditional, flexible and hybrid. It is shown that belonging to a particular model affects men’s attitudes towards other types of masculinity. The analysis revealed a stable tendency: younger generations are more inclined to a flexible model, while older generations reproduce traditional attitudes. These differences are partially mitigated through adaptive forms. The findings of the study emphasize the importance of intergenerational dialogue and reflect the change in gender norms under the influence of socio-cultural shifts. This shift indicates a generational transformation of views on masculinity, reflecting not only changes in the social context, but also the growing adaptation of young men to the conditions of modern social reality.

Keywords: male identity; masculinity; hegemonic masculinity; performativity; male role; models of masculinity; generation; generational differences

Vasiliev Sergey Alexandrovich Main Radio Frequency Center, Moscow, Russia Russian State Social University, Moscow, Russia E-mail: whoahaohw@gmail.com Peredelsky Alexey Anatolievich Russian State Social University, Moscow, Russia E-mail: PeredelskiiAA@rgsu.net Abstract.
