Abstract. The issues raised in the scientific article «Modern trends in the democratization of the political culture of Russians» are relevant due to the fact that changes in the political system of the state in one way or another affect all citizens; corresponds to the direction of research in the specialty 23.00.02 «Political institutions, processes and technologies». During the analysis, the methods of discourse analysis and secondary analysis of scientific publications of Russian political scientists and media materials were applied. Attention is focused on the current state of the political development of society, the positions and opinions of political scientists are studied, taking into account the socio-cultural and political life of our society in the context of the problem raised. The authors begin their discussion with the theoretical and historical-political aspects of the formation of a fundamentally new political culture of Russians since the time of M.S. Gorbachev to the present. Modern trends in the democratization of the political culture of Russians have been formed over the past two or three decades. At present, they must be strengthened in the processes of the formation of a multipolar world and the reassessment by Russia of its own identity, history, national goals and its place in the world. The authors come to the conclusion that democratic foundations affect all aspects of life, are an ideal and a plan that develops as it is designed and implemented. The article also touches upon the issue of updating the national idea in modern political discourse, and highlights the special influence of the information agenda on the formation of the political culture of Russians, which includes democratic values. The conclusions formulated in this article will help to further define the tasks and clarify the methods and tools for conducting empirical research on the subject of dissertation work.
