Formation of ecological culture of the local community

Abstract. he article examines the civic culture of the individual, a mandatory component of which is a high level of environmental awareness and activity in environmental protection processes. For a citizen, protecting the «common home» is part of life and further development.

In this article, the author examines the relevance of the environmental issue and the need for its socialization through educational institutions, territorial communities and public organizations. It has been revealed that solving environmental problems at the local level can be more effective, since local communities are better aware of their problems and see the benefits of solving them. Decentralization of powers also encourages local communities to care about the environment. The author also draws attention to the key concept of the study-ecological culture. Describing its content, we can mention economic literacy, the ability to work with environmental information, economic awareness and rules of environmental behavior. A certain level of environmental culture allows one to form a subject’s attitude towards environmental knowledge and skills, as well as to include it in environmental activities.

Overall, your comment highlights the need to develop and implement effective environmental policy mechanisms at the local level that would promote the dissemination of environmental culture among the population.
