Abstract. The article examines the phenomenon of criminal ideology existing in modern Russian society. The changes taking place in the system of social relations in our country have begun to take destructive forms. One of such forms in the system of public relations is the phenomenon of «criminal ideology». It became widespread in our country in the second half of the twentieth century, but with the change in the socio-political situation in the country, it began to take on completely different forms compared to its original state. If earlier, most researchers stated that its nature is extremely narrowly focused — in relation to the marginalized (unstable) part of our society. Currently, criminologists are recording the spread of this phenomenon to a fairly wide range of the population of our country. The peculiarity is that the main postulates of the «criminal ideology» were formed by convicts in places of deprivation of liberty. It is these specific relationships that first spread among young people, then spread to older people. Therefore, it was important for researchers to trace the transformation of criminal ideology. This allows us to identify the most priority areas for its prevention, as the main form of combating this socially negative phenomenon. The author justifies his position by the fact that any ideology, not only the one that is defined as «criminal», changes along with society. Therefore, in order to effectively solve the problem under consideration, it is assumed that the efforts of not only law enforcement agencies, but also the most active part of the population will be concentrated.
