The Iran’s traditional values: an analysis of the regulatory framework

Abstract. The article analyzes the legal framework of Iran, affecting the sphere of culture. The traditional values of the average Iranian are a conflicting mixture of positive and negative motifs and a constant tension between Persian and Islamic identities. The article examines the historical context of the formation and development of Iranian traditional values, as well as the techniques and mechanisms used to strengthen and protect them within the framework of legal norms. Iranian social norms reflect many contradictions. Individualism is by far the most prominent trait. Iran has strict dress code laws based on Islamic principles and cultural practices. These laws require both men and women to dress modestly, although there are stricter requirements for women. Iran also enforces gender segregation laws in many public places, including schools, workplaces, and public transportation systems. Iran does not have a specific law regarding honor killings. However, they do happen, and the Iranian legal system and culture is often criticized for not doing enough to prevent or prosecute them. Traditional values have had a significant impact on Iranian law. Islamic values such as justice, equality and moral responsibility have also influenced Iran’s traditional values. Other important traditional values of Iran may be hospitality, generosity and strong social and cultural traditions shaped by the country’s long and rich history. The results of the analysis can be useful both for researchers involved in the traditional values and legal system of Iran, and for politicians and legislators who seek to harmonize international standards with national traditions and values.
