Abstract. The author of this article analyzes the era of fundamental changes in the political system of Russia at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries. The collapse of the USSR, the formation of a new democratic statehood, the struggle of internal political elites, changes in electoral legislation, protest moods of the population and foreign policy challenges require scientific understanding and analysis. However, there is insufficient study of the peculiarities of changes in Russian political thought in the context of socio-political conflicts.

The article emphasizes the importance of scientific analysis of the political preconditions of economic, social and political transformations to describe the current state of political institutions and the dynamics of political ideas of the population. This approach allows us to analyze the quality of political decisions made and determine the optimal ways out of conflict and crisis situations.

The article also examines the concept of political thought as a system of ideas, ideas and views that find their theoretical expression and justification in political science — the science of politics and cratology — the science of power.

The author emphasizes the importance of the knowledge function of political thought, which is aimed at developing people’s understanding of the nature of political power, political systems, relationships and processes. It is also noted that in the context of the chosen topic, the protests of the early 2010s emphasized the need for active interaction between the political system and society and the formation of a clear image of the present and future.

The article shows the polarization of Russian political thought and the identification of two conditional groups of experts — «statists» and «liberals». It is noted that at present, understanding of Russian political reality often occurs within the framework of such approaches. However, there has been a decrease in the number of scientific studies devoted to Russian politics and an increase in journalistic political discussions carried out through the media and the Internet.

In general, as a result, we can emphasize the need for a more in-depth scientific analysis of Russian political thought and its influence on society and political processes.
