Abstract. The article describes the mechanisms of transformation of contemporary philanthropy practices in India under the influence of societal factors and events, with a focus on the transformation of the philanthropy ecosystem in the face of global challenges.

Practices of philanthropy have been known for a long time. For a long time, they have been a prerogative and compulsory component of religious cults in many countries of the world and a key responsibility of certain sections of the population as a kind of unspoken duty to society. Charity has become a substitute/supplement to the social policy pursued in a particular state. The increase in the number of vulnerable groups due to both economic and climatic crises required the introduction of new formats of interaction between government structures, the business community and the non-profit sector. The author of the article emphasizes the importance of private philanthropy as a key element in this process, contributing to the creation of effective mechanisms of cooperation and strengthening social sustainability. In addition, the mechanisms of philanthropy’s influence on social and political processes are explored. Particular attention is paid to the importance of active citizen participation in public life, which is critical for strengthening democratic institutions and shaping social order. The research methodology includes a variety of approaches: the dialectical method, comparative analysis and structural-functional approach, as well as reliance on empirical data from the report.

Keywords: philanthropy; сivil society; сharitable foundations; welfare state; non-profit organization; charity; family philanthropy
